A chance to be nobody in charge of nothing!
If you're running or helping to run a temple or dharma center, your practice is often all about making practice possible for others. Here's your opportunity to spend three days here at Sanshin sitting sesshin for yourself alone, with no requirement to be a leader of practice or practitioners. You will give no talks, ring no bells, manage no meals, answer no questions, train no officers, maintain no facility and direct no volunteers. In a zendo containing only your peers, you need not be a role model or example for anyone. You will be responsible to and for only yourself.
This sesshin will follow Sanshin's usual sesshin schedule, with zazen available in 50-minute periods between 4 am and 9 pm with three one-hour breaks for meals (taken buffet-style without chanting or oryoki). There are no talks or work periods and there is no liturgy. How many periods you sit is your choice; you determine the intensity of your practice without accountability to anyone else.
Note that since this sesshin is for dharma teachers the dates do not fall 1) during a standard Sotoshu ango period, when it may be difficult for you to leave your temple or center, or 2) over a weekend, when your sangha is likely to need you back home.
Sanshin's Finance Committee has agreed to dramatically discount the suggested donation for this special sesshin to $80. (A three day sesshin at Sanshin is usually $240; if funds are a barrier to your participation, you're invited to learn about scholarship funding here.) Meals (during sesshin) are included in the event fee; accommodations are available separately. There are up to seven beds available in our adjacent dormitory and participants are also welcome to sleep in the zendo or camp on Sanshin grounds. There are also various B&B and hotel options around Bloomington.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SESSHIN
After you make your payment you'll be taken automatically to our registration form, which you can complete and submit online.

There is no additional charge for sleeping on the zendo floor with your own bedding while you're attending a Sanshin practice event for which you've registered. No need to add anything to your shopping cart; just indicate on your registration form that that's your plan. If you prefer a dorm space, please reserve below.
Accommodations are not included in the event fee and must be reserved separately. Signing up for an event does not guarantee you a bed. Dorm space is not held until paid for. [NOTE: The per-night cost of dorm space will increase March 1. ]
