information on may 2020 genzo-e is here.

NOVEMBER 6-11, 2019

with Shohaku Okumura
Shobogenzo Sesshin-Sessho (Expounding Mind Expounding Nature)
Genzo-e retreats focus on the study of the Shobogenzo (True Dharma Eye Treasury), the major work of the founder of Soto Zen, Dogen Zenji. Although the Shobogenzo is considered to be one of the most important Buddhist texts in Japan and has been translated into English several times, it is very difficult to understand without studying the text in its original language. The genzo-e retreat is therefore a rare opportunity for in-depth study of Dogen with a teacher who has studied the Shobogenzo extensively and practiced with its insights for many years. Two 90-minute lectures are offered each day with some discussion. Breaks are offered to allow study and discussion of the teachings.

We now offer a lectures-only registration option for those who wish to attend all the talks but not zazen, meals or other activities.  You may register for the lectures-only option using the Event Payment and Registration button or for individual talks using the button below it.

Accommodations
Accommodations are not included in the event fee and must be reserved separately.

At the TMBCC:

Cottage:  $50/night per person

You will be sharing the cottage with one other person.  A roommate of the same gender will be assigned or you may sign up with another person and indicate that you'd like to share.  Cottages include simple cooking facilities, a shower and a small deck for enjoying the woods.  They're a 10-minute walk from the Cultural Center.
Update 4 November 2019: No vacancies
Sleeping room at the Cultural Center:  $33/night per person
You will share a room with up to three other people of the same gender on the second floor, just above the lecture/zazen hall and meals area.  That floor also includes kitchen facilities, two showers and a sitting area.
Updated 4 November, 2019:No vacancies
Camping on TMBCC grounds: donation
You are welcome to bring your camping gear or minivan and camp on the grounds of the Cultural Center.  A shower is available on the first floor of the building for your use.  While there is no charge for camping, we suggest a donation to the TMBCC.  As a point of reference, the camping fee at Sanshin is $10/night.

At Sanshin:
Updated 4 November 2019: No vacancies in the Sanshin Zen Community Dorm.
If you wish to camp at Sanshin or stay in Sanshin's zendo with your own bedding,  click here. We currently have 4 people sleeping on the Sanshin zendo floor.
You may choose to sleep in the zendo with your own bedding, or in your own tent on our grounds or a the Tibetan Center. The fee for sleeping in the
zendo or in your tent is waived while you're attending a Sanshin practice event for which you've registered and paid.  No need to add anything to your shopping cart; just indicate on your registration form that that's your plan.

Sanshin does not provide transportation to and from the TMBCC, about 4 miles away; you are responsible for your own arrangements.  While it may be possible to get a ride from another guest, we do not know who may have a vehicle and cannot set up car pools for you.  You may wish to reserve Sanshin accommodations with a group of friends and rent a car between you, or to share daily rides from Lyft or Uber.
