Sangai Yuishin
(Three Worlds are Only Mind)

Genzo-e retreats are offerings unique to Sanshin Zen Community. They focus on the study of the Shobogenzo (True Dharma Eye Treasury), the major work of the founder of Soto Zen, Dogen Zenji. Although the Shobogenzo is considered to be one of the most important Buddhist texts in Japan and has been translated into English several times, it is very difficult to understand without studying the text in its original language. The genzo-e retreat is therefore a rare opportunity for in-depth study of Dogen with a teacher who has studied the Shobogenzo extensively and practiced with its insights for many years. Two 90-minute lectures are offered each day with some discussion. Breaks are offered to allow study and discussion of the teachings.

PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR REGISTRATION CAREFULLY.  While genzo-e does sell out quickly and it may be tempting to reserve your place now "just in case" you'd like to attend, we beg you to register only if you actually and fully intend to be here.  It frequently happens that shortly before genzo-e is to begin, multiple cancellations come in from those who've decided they're not coming after all.  On short notice, those on the waiting list can't attend either, and suddenly a very popular sold out event with a waiting list has empty seats that can't be filled even though others wish to attend.  Please consider both Sanshin event managers and your fellow practitioners and put aside the "I can always cancel later" approach to registration.  Thank you!

IU Graduation is at the same time as our Genzo-e,
so local housing will be extremely tight. We strongly recommend securing lodging when you get confirmation of your enrollment.

Accommodations
You may choose to sleep in the zendo with your own bedding, in your own tent on our grounds, or somewhere offsite for which you've made arrangements. There is no charge for sleeping on the zendo floor or in your tent while you're attending a Sanshin practice event. No need to add anything to your shopping cart; just indicate on your registration form that that's your plan.

Accommodations are not included in the event fee and must be reserved separately.
