Shobogenzo Shohojisso
(True Reality of All Beings) Genzo-e retreats focus on the study of the Shobogenzo (True Dharma Eye Treasury), the major work of the founder of Soto Zen, Dogen Zenji. Although the Shobogenzo is considered to be one of the most important Buddhist texts in Japan and has been translated into English several times, it is very difficult to understand without studying the text in its original language. The genzo-e retreat is therefore a rare opportunity for in-depth study of Dogen with a teacher who has studied the Shobogenzo extensively and practiced with its insights for many years. Two 90-minute lectures are offered each day with some discussion. Breaks are offered to allow study and discussion of the teachings. We now offer a lectures-only registration option for those who wish to attend all the talks but not zazen, meals or other activities. You may register for the lectures-only option using the Event Payment and Registration button or for individual talks using the button below it. Daily schedule

This event will be held at the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center,
about 4 miles from Sanshin at 3655 S. Snoddy Rd. PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR REGISTRATION CAREFULLY. While genzo-e does sell out quickly and it may be tempting to reserve your place now "just in case" you'd like to attend, we beg you to register only if you actually and fully intend to be here. It frequently happens that shortly before genzo-e is to begin, multiple cancellations come in from registrants who've decided they're not coming after all. On short notice, those on the waiting list can't attend either, and suddenly a very popular sold out event with a waiting list has empty seats that can't be filled even though others wish to attend. Please consider both Sanshin event managers and your fellow practitioners and put aside the "I can always cancel later" approach to registration. Thank you!
Accommodations
Accommodations are not included in the event fee and must be reserved separately. Accommodations at the TMBCC and at Sanshin are limited and will sell out quickly. Once all beds are taken, your options are camping or local hotels or BnBs. We do not have information or recommendations about off-site accommodations. At the TMBCC:
Cottage: $55/night per person You will be sharing the cottage with one other person. A roommate of the same gender will be assigned or you may sign up with another person and indicate that you'd like to share. Cottages include simple cooking facilities, a shower and a small deck for enjoying the woods. They're a 10-minute walk from the Cultural Center. Sleeping room at the Cultural Center: $35/night per person You will share a room with up to three other people of the same gender on the second floor, just above the lecture/zazen hall and meals area. That floor also includes kitchen facilities, two showers and a sitting area.
Camping on TMBCC grounds: donation You are welcome to bring your camping gear or minivan and camp on the grounds of the Cultural Center. A shower is available on the first floor of the building for your use. While there is no charge for camping, we suggest a donation to the TMBCC. As a point of reference, the camping fee at Sanshin is $10/night. At Sanshin:
If you wish to camp at Sanshin or stay in Sanshin's zendo with your own bedding, click here. You may choose to sleep in the zendo with your own bedding, or in your own tent on our grounds or a the Tibetan Center. The fee for sleeping in the zendo or in your tent is waived while you're attending a Sanshin practice event for which you've registered and paid. No need to add anything to your shopping cart; just indicate on your registration form that that's your plan. Sanshin does not provide transportation to and from the TMBCC, about 4 miles away; you are responsible for your own arrangements. While it may be possible to get a ride from another guest, we do not know who may have a vehicle and cannot set up car pools for you. You may wish to reserve Sanshin accommodations with a group of friends and rent a car between you, or to share daily rides from Lyft or Uber. |
