9 am - 5 pm (tentative)
We're still working out the details of this exciting new workshop, but registration is open. Here's what we know today:
Hosshin Shoaf will lead a day devoted to establishing a home altar as a foundation of individual practice. He'll provide the wooden pieces and necessary supplies and guide participants in the assembly of their altars. Previous experience with wood, building or crafts is helpful but not necessary.
The day will also likely include zazen, a talk from Hosshin about the various elements that make up a typical altar, and a closing ceremony at which we will offer incense, bows and chanting at our new altars.
You are welcome to stay overnight at Sanshin and attend our usual Sunday morning practice before departing for home.
The cost of registration is $65 and includes a simple vegetarian lunch; within 2 weeks of the event the cost is $75. Registration will not be accepted within one week of the event.
Hosshin Shoaf serves as Sanshin's work leader and will be the shuso, or head disciple, during the ango that runs from April 9 through July 9. A professional builder and remodeler, he has built multiple altars for Sanshin and for home use.
Home Altar Workshop: $65
After you make your payment you'll be taken automatically to our registration form, which you can complete and submit online.
If you would like to arrive the night before and/or stay until the next morning, you may choose to sleep in the zendo, in our dorm, in your own tent on our grounds or somewhere offsite for which you've made arrangements. There is no charge for sleeping on the zendo floor with your own bedding or in your tent while you're attending a Sanshin practice event. No need to add anything to your shopping cart; just indicate on your registration form that that's your plan. If you prefer a dorm space, please reserve below.
Please be sure to indicate in your shopping cart the number of nights for which you are reserving a bed; the default is one.
Or, rent a spacious, comfortable room in a Buddhist-friendly home just a few doors down from Sanshin. Choose this room or this one, or get together with friends and rent the house. When reserving, you can mention you're with Sanshin; the homeowner knows us.
