You’re at the top of our to-do list.
Please put Sanshin at the top of yours.
Dear Friends of Sanshin Zen Community:
We’ve just finished the busiest season of the year at Sanshin—the annual three-month ango, or practice period. Now we’re on to the next vital activity--connecting with you, the Sanshin community, to ask for your continued financial support.
The ango includes events that represent all three of the key elements of our practice. April brings the annual spring work day, during which the sangha gets together to care for the building and grounds that house our practice. In May, genzo-e offers the opportunity for in-depth study of Dogen’s writings. During June sesshin, we put aside all other activities to concentrate completely on zazen. Thus in the space of one ango, we reconnect with zazen, work and study as the basis for our practice.
Just as we need the stability of this range of elements in our practice life, Sanshin needs the stability of a broad range of donors in our financial life. Everyone’s participation is important in keeping Sanshin sustainable and ensuring that teaching and practice can go on. As Okumura Roshi continues his transition toward a Founding Teacher role in 2023, Hoko moves toward taking on more and more leadership, and the Dogen Institute works with new authors on new publications, our range of offerings is broadening. There are opportunities for practitioners with a variety of interests and experience levels, and our funding must broaden as well. Whether you connect with Sanshin by visiting to attend practice events, reading our publications, participating in Sanshin events away from Bloomington or just enjoying our newsletter, Facebook pages and websites, you’re a part of our community and your gifts of support are essential.
Can you sign on as a regular monthly donor through an automatic bank withdrawal or Paypal payment? It’s a great way to help make sure Sanshin’s income is predictable and stable. If not, can you make a one-time donation? Whichever giving opportunity is best for you, it’s easy to do—just click the Donate button at the top of the page to give online.
On behalf of all of the directors on Sanshin’s board, thank you for all of your participation and practice that have made Sanshin’s growth and transition possible. It’s an exciting time for Sanshin’s community, and it’s the involvement and support of us all that bring Sanshin’s practice to life. Please make your gift today.
David Konen Thompson, President
Sanshin Zen Community Board of Directors
